Frequently Asked Questions
What is ASMR? ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. It is a calming, tingling sensation that some people experience in response to certain gentle triggers, such as soft touch, whispering, brushing sounds, or slow, careful movements. The tingles often start at the scalp or neck and can spread down the body, creating a deep sense of relaxation and comfort. Scientifically, ASMR is thought to involve areas of the brain linked to calmness, social bonding, and positive emotion such as the medical prefrontal cortex and nucleus accumbens. Research has shown that ASMR can help reduce the heart rate, lower stress, and promote feelings of safety and wellbeing. Many people describe it as a form of pleasant, peaceful relaxation rather than a simple, physical tingling similar to the comfort of being cared for, or the soothing sensation of gentle human touch.
Is this like a massage? Not quite, these sessions focus on light, soothing, touch-like back tracing, soft brushing, or gentle nail scratches – rather than deep tissue work. They are designed to relax the nervous system, not to address muscle tension.
Do you use oils? No oils or creams are used – these sessions rely on dry, gentle techniques using clean hands, soft brushes, and other calming tools.
Do I need to talk during the session? Not at all. Your welcome to stay silent and simply relax – there is no pressure to speak. If you would like to share how you are feeling or request adjustments, that is always welcome.
What should I wear? Wear whatever feels comfortable for you. Some clients remove their top for back-focused sessions (you will be covered with a soft blanket for warmth and privacy).
Who is this for? Anyone who feels anxious, overwhelmed, emotionally fatigued, or simply in need of deep relaxation.
